This was a Great Horned owl that showed up in our back yard one evening after we had gotten home from a trip. Jeannie and the boys were yelling at me that there was an owl in the top of the tree. The tree was a Russian Olive which is an Invasive species in Colorado. The tree stood about 30 feel tall and I could not see it at first. Only after I found him with the camera could I just barely make him out with no detail. So you can see the detail my digital camera gets at 40X. I had to be very steady as the slightest movement on my part and I would lose the owl in my view finder or blur the photo. The United States Geological Survey were I work wants to use this picture in publications if they need an owl picture.
Taken with a Panasonic DMC-FZ30 digital camera Zoomed in at 35X standard macro enabled
